CVS - Unfair Treatment of Employees-Seniority
N/A - Complaint
My wife has been with CVS, in the same store, for 19 years. She is the longest tenured employee in her location. For as long as I can remember, vacations were always chosen by seniority (longest tenure = first pick on vacation). For the last several years we have always taken off the week of Thanksgiving to travel to visit family. Her store was recently assigned to a new manager, and he has chosen to change the rules because other, newer employees have complained that the old rules weren't fair. For this reason, her vacation request was denied and she was told she must work that week.
We proceeded to call the district manager, and then corporate, to no avail. They told us that vacations are done by manager discretion and that the company is not obligated to follow a seniority system regarding its employment decisions. So basically they told her tough luck. Now we must change our travel plans and reschedule our family reunion.
I don't understand how the other employees think a seniority based system isn't fair. It rewards the employees who have worked through the years through all the ups and downs and stayed loyal to the company. I hope the other employees realize that one day they are going to be in that position of seniority and maybe they're going to feel differently. I'm not sure what to do at this point. Is there any recourse I can follow?
