ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN -- I have been working in Subway for one month, it is horrible to work. To much stress, workload, very less pay for the work I do.

Subway sandwiches are cheap because they pay minimum wage for most of the employees. Franchisee have to cut down the operational costs, first thing they cut on labor. They expect one person to finish the job. It requires three employees to finish the jobs

Please don't work Subway and don't get kill your self.

This franchise wants to be like McDonald's, but Subway can't go nearly close to it.

You are so right. I managed for them for 2 years and was fired after I developed congestive heart failure and asked to be dropped to employee or have an asst manager. Their food cost formula is so geared toward cheating the customer that most managers will tell their employees to skimp on both meat and toppings and they even have a website just for franchisees called Make More Money that tells how to make less look like more and how to get more work from low paid workers.Best subs around imho is Firehouse. You get what you pay for and it tastes way better.

This sounds pretty much like what I would expect, just from shopping at a Subway.

I wouldn't expect much better from a fast food joint or any franchised establishment in this class. Thankfully, people can be found to work for these places - I don't know how they can - obviously they were born with something I wasn't. Patience? Generosity? Desire to help others? All of the above?

Great input, Tezrien. This doesn't surprise me, but it sounds very deceitful. To prevent this, the meat and cheese should be weighed. Then they would probably rig the scales.

When I go to Subway I stand there and watch them make the sandwich. Only 1 time did I think that my portion was being skimmed. Since I am a take no crap kind of guy I simply said that my sandwich needed more product. The worker promptly added to it. If the worker would have refused or given me a hard time I would have told them to keep their sandwich. The meek may inherit the earth but they won't always get a fair deal.

Subway is in business for one thing, and one thing only. To make money. No different than any other company. Nearly every company out there has seminars on how to get the most out of your employees. I will not slight them for that.

When I go to a fast food restaurant I sometimes think - if I had to work at a fast food restaurant, which one would I prefer. Subway is at the bottom of the list simply because you have the customer breathing in your face the whole time and you have to get into this detailed interchange about the food you're preparing. No way Jose! I'd rather work in a White Castle on Saturday nites.
