ALL OVER THE HUDSON VALLEY, NEW YORK -- J. Lent Construction is spamming Craiglist ad infinitum with advertising their service, in the Hudson Valley, NY area.
Last September, J. Lent put in a flagstone walk way and patio. Within one week, the flagstones were moving out of place and the level on one side was visibly higher. I asked him to come back and fix it. He ignored me.
He has two exploited laborers that cannot speak English, who stopped working because Lent had to come back to the site to explain something to them. That does not indicate that they have "34" years of experience that J. Lent advertises. He says he'll gives you cheaper rate IF you pay cash. That is not so. He is still charging you the going rate. He just doesn't want to pay taxes or have anypaper trail, so you can sue him for a shoddy job. My walkway and patio looks like a ten years old mess needing an upgrade!! and it is only six months old!!
BUYERS BEWARE!!!

Did you check his references before you hired him? Hopefully he's licensed and you can report him to the appropriate state agency.

References are useless when they have a huge family and lie for each other.

In NYS you don't need a licenseto be a "general contractor." The BBB just collects data and MAY if the contractor does something outrageous like maim the owner via shoddy work, it may refer it to the ATT.General who may or may not sue.
MOST to all government agencies are USELESS in aiding the public on private matters, such as a home improvement contractor. But thanks anyway.
