Prime Restaurants Complaint - A Night at East Side Marios
ST. CATHARINES -- On Thursday, Dec 28/2000, my girlfriend and I went out to East Side Marios in St. Catharines for dinner. When we first arrived we were told there would be a wait of about twenty minutes so we we asked to wait in the bar area. In twenty minutes we were given a table, a booth in the corner and told our waitress would be with us shortly. About fifteen minutes later she appears and asks if we were ready to order. We ordered an appetizer of calamari rings, a garden salad with chicken and a 14 oz steak medium rare with garlic mashed potatoes and the wedding soup. I tasted the soup and immediately didnt like it. I wasnt going to ask for something else because when you eat out, you learn what you like on the menu. This whole time we have yet to order something to drink because it appeared the waitress had other pressing things to do. She stated later that she hadnt asked us if we wanted drinks because we had beer bottles from the bar, which were empty after the first twenty minute wait.
She then brought our calamari rings and removed my full bowl of wedding soup from the table after asking if I was finished. I thought that at least she could have asked if there was something wrong with the soup or if I would like the salad instead. She simply removed the bowl and left the calamari. The calamari rings had all the breading off them and had barely enough dipping sauce for a half order. At this point I had managed to have the waitress at our table for more than five seconds and asked for diet coke. She stated yes and walked away not even acknowledging my girlfriend and asking if she wanted anything to drink. When she returned my grilfriend then asked if maybe she could have a diet coke as well.
After about another half hour, our food arrived. My dinner looked excellent but I was a little disappointed because I had never before ordered a steak dinner and not received vegetables with my steak and potatoes. My girlfriends dinner was served in one of those communal salad bowls with some chicken on top. She looked she was eating out of a trough. I had a bite of my steak and it immediately tasted funny. I tried it again and then asked my girlfriend to taste. She stated that it may be burned on the bottom. So I trun my steak over and it is completely black on the other side. I was disgusted that someone could serve this especially since I ordered it medium rare.
I told the waitress and she asked if I would like another. I refused because I wasnt about to wait another thirty minutes for a poor steak dinner. She then told us that her manager would be right over. The hostess apologized to me and said that perhaps the boys in the kitchen were busy and left the steak on too long. This is probably what happened but the steak should have never been served to the customer. I would have rather been told the truth about my steak and waited a little longer than given a steak with the burned side hidden by the plate. We waited for the manager and even saw her speaking with our waitress but she never came over. After another twenty minutes with no response from either the manager or the waitress we left our 25 dollar gift certificate and left with no one stopping us on the way out. This was a night I will never forget, not for the great food and excellent service but for the poor way we were treated from the minute we sat down at the table to the poor, poor quality of food we received.
The one thing that really bothered me about the whole thing was that my girlfriend had done business with this particular restaurant and specifically that same manager before. She exchanged several hanging baskets of flowers, $400.00 dollars worth to be exact, in exchange for these gift certificates we used which had no cash back value. We left one $25.00 dollar gift certificate on the table to cover our meal and gave the other we had to a couple eating at the table next to us because we were certainly not going to eat in that East Side Marios ever again if any.
I am still not sure what I am hoping to accomplish by writing this letter but if only to tell you what a horrible dining experience this was and that I will never eat there again. I am telling the same to family, friends and any one else who cares to ask. I work at Casino Niagara and am asked frequently about good and bad restaurants in the area. Needless to say, you will not receive a good bidding. My girlfriend stated also that she will terminate any future business she has with your restaurant. I hope to hear from you within 10 business days in response to my concerns.
