BEDFORD, NEW HAMPSHIRE -- On Sunday, 5 May 13, I went to Macy's (Bedford, NH) to follow-up on a phone inquiry about a set of cookware, to be given as a wedding present. When I arrived, the items had been set aside. As the box was large (and the deparment was on the second floor) I needed a cart. An associate kindly brought me a cart, though I'd gladly have gone to get one. Within a few minutes, I'd paid and was on my way. That was my first visit to Macy's in years!!

A cautionary note about Macy's business policies. Long ago, I had a Macy's charge card. When I asked about reviving it, I was told I'd have to provide my social security number (SSAN). I declined to do that. I have no issue with showing a photo ID, to prove my identity. The risks of identity theft are such, that no business should seek or keep a customer's SSAN, unless there's a specific legal requirement (e. g., banks, so they can report interest payments to customers). Macy's should not use the SSAN to keep accounts, etc.
