GERMANTOWN, WISCONSIN -- We have been customers of Waste Management (“WM”) since 2009 for an apartment complex. We have had service for trash removal with WM since 2009 at a contracted monthly rate of $2,860 plus taxes and surcharges totaling approximately $3,200 per month. We signed a contract with the company in 2009. The company has steadily increased our charges despite being in contract and we were forced to terminate our contract on January 31, 2013.

We terminated the service with WM for violating the terms of our contract and increasing our monthly service charge throughout the contract period. Our contract rate over 3 years was supposed to be $3,200 per month. The company however was increasing our agreed to rate substantially intra-year from 2010 to 2012. In 2010 WM increased our monthly rate from $3200 to $5000, a 55% increase. In 2011, WM increased our rate from $5000 to $5755, a 15% increase. In 2012, WM increased our rate from $5755 to $6672 (another 17% increase). The total increase over that time was 107%, with WM more than doubling our agreed to rate from $3200 per month to $6672 per month.

Waste Management is ruthless and will increase your monthly rate arbitrarily. The company will also make it difficult for you to get out of your contract. We finally were able to get out of our contract and the company refused to remove its containers from the property. This created a huge headache for us since these containers were overflowing and Waste Management continued to bill us for their service, which we were no longer receiving. Avoid this company at all cost.

unless your state is different there is some state agency that regulates these rates. I'd think by talking to them you'd get more results.
