SOUTHERN PINES, NORTH CAROLINA -- Have a bad electric can opener that broke on first use. Magnet that holds lid arm snapped off. Plastic was broken part way as it can be seen in pictures I sent company. But they insist on a shipping cost to replace a deffective product. Then they lowered shipping from $9.95 To $6.95 After complaining.

It should be free replacement no ifs, ands, or bu-t's if the product is defective from start. Paying for shipping is a big ripoff since they made the product. They say its under guarantee but you have to pay to get it replaced.

Just a warning to future customers of theirs you will have to pay if anything breaks thats made by hamilton beach under their warranty terms.

Good luck to them!

How long ago did you buy it, and did you buy it from the manufacturer directly or from a retail store?

The store would not accept it back? Is it a specific color or style that is not in stock etc? Or maybe it aged out of stock.
Yes I would be angry, and it does feel that you are paying for the replacement. What did the department store say?
