OLATHE, KANSAS -- Rec'd a Garmin Nuvi 1450LMT navigation device for Christmas 2011. At that time I took it out of the box & played with it for a few minutes, then put it away until 2 days ago. We're finally going to be in a position to use it on an upcoming trip. When I tried to turn it on, there was no response- dark screen. Assuming the battery was dead, I plugged in to my computer and left it to charge overnight. Still would not power up, so I plugged it into my car for the following night, but that also did not work. I called Garmin Cust. service and their representative politely told me that it was out of warranty and repair cost would be $110!
Never got to use it and Garmin would not help. Lesson learned.

Put yourself in Garmin's shoes. What was the warranty on the device? A year seems like a reasonable amount of time.

For one thing, Garmin doesn't know that you have used the device, and for another it wouldn't matter. When you say "inflexible," it sounds like you expect them to make an exception. But there doesn't appear to be a reason to do so.

the lesson is everything has a limited warranty from the moment it is bought.

You gotta love how great companys are with standing behind their products....NOT. As if a year is a reasonable amount of time for a GPS to work, when you pay a pretty penny for them. And how generous, they will look at it for 110.00 For that price, you can almost buy a new one! Its ridiculous how cheap companys are these days. Very sad.

It was almost 2 years old by the time you tried it and you wanted them to pay for the repair under warranty?
