INTERNET, CALIFORNIA -- After 7 yrs I agreed to upgrade to the new Gen 4. The modem installed failed in less than 72 hrs. I contacted the installer to put in a new modem. Hughesnet refused to allow this simple fix and said I would have to pay $30 AND wait 10-15 days for Hughesnet tech to come to my house. I told the customer service representative to close my account. He said if they billed me a few more days I wouldn't have to pay the $477 fee. How can I still be in a contract when I have had them for 7 years? Somehow they decided to help themselves to my bank account and take over $500 from it causing me to have a list of over drafts.
Iam a disabled veteran. Is this the Free country I fought for? In reality we are all slaves to companies like hughesnet

I suggest filing a fraud complaint with your bank, they should reverse the charge.

When you upgraded, you relaunched the 2 year contract. HughesNet has to recoup the costs of the upgrade.
