ATLANTA, GEORGIA -- My HSBC credit card was acquired by Capital One. In spite of using the card very often and always paying the complete balances on time, they reported me to the credit bureau from the first month they took over. Since the first month I had overpaid the balance by $8.25, they reported to the credit bureaus that "My unused credit card had a new charge". The second month they also reported that my "Unused card had again a new charge".

That sent my credit score 28 down before I realized what was going on. When I contacted them they asked me to contact the credit bureaus. Only when I insisted they promised to take action to fix the problem but said that it would take at least 60 days for them to process the request. I am still waiting to see what happens but will stop using the card at all.

Ask them how long it will take them to fix the problem once you file in court for violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
