Macy's Credit Card - How Easy Is To charge Somebody Else's Card

TAMPA, FLORIDA -- I was at Macy's buying a suit. I did not have my credit card with me and the sales person asked me for my drivers license. I show it to him and he asked for me to input my social security number in their machine. I did, but made a mistake in one number.

Their machine accepted the charge of almost $200.00 to an account that was not mine. I found out when the sales person said that it was charged to my wife's account. The account was under my name only.

I am honest so, I told the sales person to reverse the charges. But that easy, Macys will mess up someones account.

That's not good. It should be no card, no charging.

This is a bit surprising, based on the details given. It sounds like your identity was proven to a certain extent, yet the charge was made to an account that was not yours but someone related to you. I assume this was a Macy's store account, but it still seems odd.
