2004 Dodge Dakota - Complaint
WILMINGTON, DELAWARE -- I have had this truck since new. I drive this truck daily to and from work about 40 miles round trip. Developed a slight coolant leak from cracked reservoir bottle. Replaced bottle with new one. It has 124,000 miles and started running poorly & check engine light came on. I had scan test performed and found engine misfire code on cylinder #4. Replaced the plugs. Ran great for about a month (800 miles). Then during a trip to work the truck started running bad then horrible and had loud banging sound. It was so bad I had to shut it down.
I had it towed to my repairman and after checking he said it appeared to have a head gasket or cylinder head problem as well as a valve seat(s) may have dropped to explain the banging sound. He said this was fairly common on these engines. He quoted me a worse case scenario to replace two cylinder heads at $1200.00 What should I do?
