virginia tile had a large display of tile manufactured in italy by lea. i ordered the
tile and it was installed on the walls and ceilings of two bathrooms. the tile installed had the same name and number on the box as what i ordered but was 13 shades darker than the tile sample and the tile display. to make matters worse the bullnose or edge tile was the color i ordered and did not match the field tile (wall and ceiling tile). it gets worse because according to bill stevenson, the owner of virginia tile, there isn't any matching bullnose or edging tile. He now refuses to return or answer phone calls. Virginia tile claims this is my fault because i did not check the tile before it was installed. many people order tile and then go out of town or are busy. virginia has an excellent reputation and it never occured to me that if the box had the same number, name and manufacturer that the tile would be a completely different color. The tile contractor had not seen a sample of the tile selected so since the boxes had the correct name, number and manufacturer he assumed it was the correct tile.
stevenson asked me if i could live withe the tile. i could have lived with the bathrooms the way they were and not remodeled them.

I used to work for a tile supplier. I am VERY familiar with the product and the supplier here. I have been in the trades for over 10 years. I find this complaint to be completely unfounded, It appears education into flooring is just. product does change over the years, and any educated tile installer should warn his customers as to "range" and variation in any product. Sounds like your installer was a handyman or someone not used to dealing in tile. Virginia Tile provides free design and great customer service. I would not recommend going to the owner of any company for a response before following the correct channels. I have had "issue" with product before from Virginia Tile and it was easily remedied by their staff. I have worked with Lea product before and it is a wonderful porcelain tile. In this economy, for Virginia tile to be around and as busy as they are they are most certainly the best in their regions. One trip to their showroom will prove that. My customers have gone to all the other suppliers and hands down prefer Virginia Tile, some have even met with Bill on an occasional Saturday in their showroom! (hardly the act of some guy too busy, or rich, to help). Just my 3 cents, oh ya and if you look at Virginia Tiles bbb A+ rating.... it would seem that they are as good as it gets!
