SAN RAFAEL, CALIFORNIA -- I was out of ink and ran to Best Buy to buy the refills. This is for a Canon MP560 Pixma. When I got home and put in the first cartridge, it fit, but the light didn't go on. I tried another one. Same thing. It turns out I had gotten ink for the wrong printer. They are boxed the same: 1 large black cartridge and 3 small color. Combo packs.

I went back to Best Buy. Obviously the ink hadn't been used. They wouldn't take it back as the box had been opened. So, I'm out $64.29 and left with non usable cartridges. What a waste. Do I just throw them away?

You are out of luck. You opened the package and tried to use it. This is Best Buy's policy, as it is for many others who sell ink cartridges. Take the loss and get on with life. It is what it is.

Try to sell them on ebay. once opened they can't take them back. you even said you tried to install it. its like eating a hamburger whole then taking the wrapper to the cashier and saying you want your money back it did not have the right hamburger.

I will offer a solution. I have a pixma...I get ink cartridges in packets of 5 with the chip in them for about $12 on eBay. Just order 2 or 3 sets every 6 months and you will never run out. NEVER BY INK RETAIL. Gee whiz
