Hotwire - False Advertising and Discrimination of Florida Residents Renting Cars
Car Rental - Complaint
TAMPA, FLORIDA -- I am writing you on behalf of my pastor,[snip] Jr., who has been a loyal customer of Hotwire for the past 10 years. Earlier this year he reserved a van with Hotwire, and was guaranteed a vehicle with unlimited mileage, since he often travels out of state.
When he called to inquire whether the agent was located on the airport property, he was told that they were not, and he could take the shuttle bus to the pick up point. At this time he discovered that there were no vans available. Furthermore, he discovered that, contrary to their advertisement, they do not offer unlimited mileage. Furthermore he was advised that Hotwire gives discounts to residents of other states, which excludes Florida residents, which is clearly discrimination, as well as false advertising! Fortunately he was able to get an SUV (slightly smaller) with a competitor which included unlimited mileage.
In my opinion, Hotwire should be held responsible for discrimination and false advertising. As a 33-year veteran of Delta Airlines, you can be assured that I will file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau as well. I will post this on my Facebook page, and will certainly advise anyone I know NOT to do business with Hotwire because they are dishonest and cannot be trusted.
