LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY -- Of the 7 medical insurance cos. I've used over the past 45 years, Humana is by far the absolute worst. Drugs which United Healthcare covered after a 5 minute conversation took 6 weeks and intervention by my doctor at Humana. When you call, you're shuttled to people, after about 10 minutes of working through voice prompts, who cannot do anything but take messages. Requests to speak to a supervisor are met with 10 to 15 minute waits. If you hold that long, the "supervisor will have to call you back, she's busy". But she never calls.
One prescription for Coumadin took 11 phone calls and two mailed forms by me and 3 calls and a form by my doctor. I was on the phone with Humana for a total of over 5.5 hours for this simple drug, because I needed the brand rather than generic warfarin to have a manageable INR. The same request at United took one short call. And then after finally approving it, Humana refused to pay for the prescription that was consumed while they stalled. This company does not deserve anyone's business.
