Auto Europe Is a Scam!!!

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON -- I booked a Range Rover (or similar) on 12/16/2019 on the Auto Europe Website. I paid in full the total amount of the booking which came to 773.21. I was provided a receipt and the full details of the rental and agreed to them. When I arrived to the car rental place on 12/19/2019 (In Germany) they said they only had 1 car available for me and it was a much smaller Hatchback vehicle and that it would be $70 more. I told them I needed something bigger and after going back and forth I reluctantly took this 1 car they had for me.

While the attendant walked me out, their lot was FULL of SUV'S, I again told the attendant I really need a bigger car. He barely spoke any English, but he radio backed to the front desk and shook his head no and points to this tiny hatchback. 3 People and 6 suitcases, it was so uncomfortable but we were in a foreign county, what were we going to do? Walk. We had about 30 hours of driving to do, that's why I really wanted the bigger vehicle. I never got a receipt from the car rental place.

Our trip was fine and I returned the car, the car lot worker noted that there was no damage and we left to fly home. Fast forward to January 6th I get billed for an additional $1,792.87. Bringing my $773.21 car rental to a total of $2566.08. The one and only car they had for me had a upgrade charge of $949.65, and I was told it was only $70 more. This is a blatant rip off and taking advantage of someone when they don't speak the language. If Auto Europe kept my reservation like they should have, I never would have been charged for a ridiculous car I didn't even want.

LONDON -- I give them one star just because I have to give a star in general. In a real life, they deserve 0 stars!!! I booked a car with them when went to visit friends back in UK. Was flying from NY and as told called from the terminal when arrived. I was instructed to go to the bus stop number 23 and someone will pick me up shortly. I was really happy as I arrived before time and thought I'll get to my destination quicker (which is brilliant after a long flight).

Unfortunately, that's not how my experience with this company ended. I was waiting for an 1h30 at this bus stop, waiting for someone to pick me up and calling the office every 15mins. I was tired, thirsty and in need of the bathroom but couldn't move from designated place. It was getting dark and I saw that the office at Heathrow airport closing at 10pm. Finally, after me calling and nagging, the driver picked me up, but he didn't say a word to me. Neither hello. NOTHING.

We got to the office which was packed with people. I was really tired and agitated and asked if they still expect me to queue after keeping me waiting for that long but they just gave me dirty looks. Finally, when my turn came up it came out that the company won't lend me a car as I don't have some DVLA no. Fair enough, I didn't read Ts&Tc's and took it for granted that each rental company has the same rules. I was rushed out the office just before 11pm because their opening hours are until 10pm and left in the middle of nowhere.

I called next day to complain and the guy and the phone was super rude and was blaming me for not having my DVLA no. As I said, I know it was my fault and I can appreciate it, but I was complaining about poor customer service I received from the company. Same night I went to Enterprise who gave me exactly the same price with last minute booking and the whole process took less than 15 mins. Staff was super friendly and understanding. If you ever want to book a car, STAY AWAY FROM AUTO EUROPE!!! Not worth your time and they won't save you any money!

Your voucher does not worth much

PORTLAND, MASSACHUSETTS -- I purchased a voucher from AutoEurope for a car I rent in Italy but an unpleasant surprise was waiting for me upon arrival. Our flight was delayed and when I stopped by at the car rental counter and presented my voucher I was told that my car was rented to another customer. Their policy is that if you are late even by an hour your voucher is invalid. That is the biggest "hidden" thing. It is not written anywhere in the 3-page voucher contract. I have paid in full for my 10-day rental and it did not guarantee me a car! Stay away from AutoEurope.

Terrible and dangerous auto rental experience Auto Europe

MADRID -- We rented with Auto Europe at the Madrid Spain airport May-June 2015. They gave us a car with bald tires, bad engine, and later we found engine empty of oil. We tried to get them to give us another vehicle and they refused saying they didn't have any other. Bald tires put our lives in danger. Engine dies several times in heavy traffic where we were almost hit several times and persons yelled and screamed at us. We complained about the Auto Europe Headquarters and they just gave us the standard sorry but refused to compensate us for such dangerous, unsafe and rude behavior we experienced at the Madrid Airport.

The Madrid personnel barely spoke English. They just wanted to push us out the gate with this unsafe and dangerous vehicle. The whole company only cares about money not customer service. The Madrid personnel very prejudice towards this American and Asian looking wife. We were treated terrible. First time we ever used Auto Europe. Worst treatment we have received in Europe in 35 years. Don't let cheap rates endanger your life. They do not care. They only care about getting their money.

Don't Use Auto Europe!!

Don't use Auto Europe!!! I rented a car through this company to be picked up in Budapest and delivered back in Berlin. They quoted the price, I accepted, charged my credit card and I never received the voucher. So, I accessed their website and could print the voucher, which seemed everything was OK.

When arriving in Budapest, the company which I would pick up the car said I needed to pay an extra fee for returning the car, which I was never informed. I called Auto Europe and they said this information was at the voucher, which wasn't. I even scanned the voucher and sent to them. Then, they called me and said they tried to contact me through e-mail and telephone, which I could not find anything. I asked them to send me again the e-mail they said they sent but they never did.

So, the result was that I had to pay for it and they said they could not do anything. The problem was mine. So, don't trust their prices and hire directly with the companies who are lending the cars. This is safe and there is no mystery. An intermediary will make their fee. They just don't show you full value so that you think it is cheaper and rent the car through them. Stay away from this company!!

If It Sounds Too Good To Be True, It Is

PORTLAND, MAINE -- Be very careful in renting from AutoEurope, what may sound like a too good to be true price, is exactly that - not true. Seek for full disclosure of any added fees/other charges that you could be charged at the end of the rental. I was quoted a super great rental price for a rental during a business trip to Germany. A few days after returning my credit card was hit with a second charge. The two charges total made the rental cost more than double what I was originally quoted. Upon contacting AutoEurope I was told the first charge was for time & mileage only and the second charge was for the local charges. Expecting one cost and having it turn out being more than double is not how I like to do business.

Horrible Experience Renting a Car in Italy Through Auto Europe in June 2018

PORTLAND, MAINE -- Rented a car for 10 days in Italy through Auto Europe. There was a 2 hour wait at the counter in Rome. Then the car they gave us was Fiat diesel. It stalled every time we went through a roundabout. The return in Milan was awful. The car rental counter attempted to charge us another 40 Euros because our contract was with Auto Europe and not Avis Italia.

Two months after returning home we were charged 40 Euros several times by Avis Italia. The representative with Auto Europe refused to get involved. We disputed the charges with American Express and had them reversed. Now 12 months later Avis is claiming we have 4 speeding tickets that have accrued penalties and interest for a year and they are charging our American Express card again. I feel that since Auto Europe is the representative for Avis Italia, they should have communicated with Avis and gotten the copies of traffic violations in September 2018, not June 2019. Now the fines are outrageous amounts. There is absolutely no customer service with Auto Europe. Do not ever rent a car with Auto Europe!!!!

Had To Pay Extra Insurance

They are horrible. We used them to book a car in Italy. Budget was the car service we used. When we arrived we were told that we had to purchase additional insurance at a cost of $800.00. The woman insisted that even though my paperwork said we did have coverage, we really did not and would be responsible if car was damaged or stolen. We felt forced to agree. When we returned I submitted to Auto Europe my complaint and they did nothing about it. We were told we signed the contract to pay the fees so there was nothing they could do. I will never use them again! Be careful.

Total mess, horrible ecperience, avoid!

UK -- Beware! Horrible experience with Autoeurope in Sardina

We have booked a 5+2 car (ford grand c max or similar) and clearly indicared in our application that we have 6 passangers. However, upon arrival to Olbia, we were offered a 5 seater. We showed our voucher clearly stating 6 passangers and tried to make sence of it, however we werer told that the only option for us is to cancel the car booking for a fee of 300 pounds and book a new car for 3150 pounds (the original cost was 1425 pounds )! Our argument that there is clear indication of 6 passangers (including 2 toddlers in car seats and 2 older children) was brushed off and we could not get any help from Autoeurop office, they said they cannot do anything! So we decided to dispute the claim through our credit card and had to pay 2500 pounds for a new car from a local provider. We tried to call Autoeurope again next day and explain the situation and actually got through to a reasonable person who promised to return our payment within 7 working days, however no money was received and when we contacted the office again we were told that there is no record of such conversation!! We were told again that we had to pay cancellation fee and write an email, which we did, but had no response for over 2 weeks now. We lost 2.5k pounds due to misbooking by the company and unacceptable handelling of the case. BEWARE AND AVOID at any cost.

No Car Available After Paying in Advance for Rental

We were forced to rent from another company because the company with whom Auto Europe told me they had booked a car in Saint Lucia said they had no cars at all, and would not for days! The last minute car rental cost us far more than what the same would have cost if we had booked ahead with them instead of AutoEurope.

Upon returning home and complaining, we received almost no response, and in the end asked my credit card to reject the charge from Auto Europe. To only refund instead of offering to pay the difference in charges incurred (for a less nice vehicle than originally booked) left me concluding there is no reason to go through AutoEurope. They take the funds in advance (unlike most car rental companies) based upon a competitive price, upon which they do not then hold themselves accountable to deliver on.
