Expedia.com Complaint - Expedia cancellation waiver policy
CALIFORNIA -- March 01,2006,I booked a flight+hotel+car package from expedia.com. Together with the package, I purchased the Expedia Vacation Cancellation Penalty Waiver for each of the person traveling with me for $35.00 each.
Under the Terms and Conditions,it states that the VOUCHER IS VALID FOR REDEMPTION ONLY BY THE PERSON(S) NAMED (ABOVE).It is not transferable, has no cash value, and MAY BE REDEEMED ONLY ONCE.In connection with this, the waiver EXCLUDES 1)nonrefundable CHARTER airfare and nonrefundable published airfares(which are reusable);2)airline change fees; and 3)the travel Protection Plan.
When i called Expedia to cancel and refund the ticket for one person who is unable to join us due to health reasons, I was appalled to learn that they cannot refund the $340.00 they charged me for the ticket. I told them that I paid the cancellation waiver hence i am entitled to get a refund. They told me that airline fares are excluded in the cancellation waiver( the waiver only applies to hotel and car cancellation!why then did they charge me per person for cancellation waiver and not just a one-time fee?).I pointed out to them that the exclusion only applies to chartered flights. they countered back that the airline we booked is a chartered flight. Now, understand that when they provide you a list of all the airlines during booking, there is no mention if a flight is chartered or not. This is clearly very misleading to customers.
