Safeco Homeowners Insurance - Does the Term Nightmare Ring a Bell?
PHOENIX, ARIZONA -- Wow, what a nightmare! We had a robbery and when we called Safeco they were very polite and assigned an adjuster to our claim. We were asked to provide a detailed list of all items including the price paid and age of the item. We did this and also included all sku #s and pricing from the retail places where we wanted to purchase replacement items from. Then, we found out "replacement policy" doesn't necessarily mean replacement for the full amount! After being told different policies and procedures every time we talked to someone and 2 months later they paid us 26% less than the amount of our claim.
That was only after a lot of kicking and screaming and getting our agent involved. What they did was to go through a resource company who can supposedly buy these items at wholesale prices. They then depreciate the price on top of that. Our agent was shocked at how our claim was handled and found us another company. Be informed and find out how your homeowners policy is really handled if you have a robbery! We felt like Safeco treated us worse than the robbers did!
