United Health Care Oxford - Unfair Prescription Drug Pricing Policy
TRUMBULL, CONNECTICUT -- Since our company switched to the "mandated type" of insurance, my non-generic only prescription cost has risen each time I refill it. I was told by the pharmacy that the reason for this, according to the insurance company, is to help me meet my deductible. I called United Health Care to substantiate this comment, and was told that the price is going up and I have to pay it. I asked for supportive documentation to prove to me that the cost of this product has risen, which they declined to provide. Less than two years ago, when I was unemployed and had no health coverage, the same prescription was 24% less.
I think this is overall an unfair practice; that the insurance company can dictate the price of prescriptions based on their actuarial analysis to meet their financial objectives by bringing people as close to the unattainable annual deduction (outside of a catastrophic event) as possible..
