DirecTV - Misleading Services (Similar to Bait and Switch)
TV Service - Complaint
AMES, IOWA -- DirecTV is the worst company I have ever dealt with when it comes to taking you to the cleaners.
Background: I am between homes and temporarily moved to an apartment. I expect to be here about 6 months before my new home is ready. At my old home, I subscribed to Mediacom cable TV and was very happy with the package, the service, and the price. DirecTV service is offered free by my apartment complex. (This is misleading but it is an issue with the apartment owner.)
Surprise 1: The first converter box came free but I had to pay DirecTV an extra $6 (plus tax) monthly fee for the second one for my second TV set.
Surprise 2: The basic package offered by DirecTV consists of little more than "JUNK channels" and, as one scrolls through the offerings, many (if not all) of those are duplicated. So much for all those channels you are supposed to get.
Surprise 3: After adding the Entertainment Package to get the basic news channels and three ESPN channels, I found myself having to pay an extra $24.98 (plus tax) per month.
Surprise 4: None of the channels came through in HD. For this I would need different converter boxes at a charge of $10 (plus tax) per month and I would have to contract their rental for at least one year. Since I plan to be here a short period of time, this didn't make sense to me so I am stuck with low quality TV. After I get into my new house, I hope I will not have deal with DirecTV ever again! (Mediacom Cable does not charge extra for HD and I can't wait to get back to that provider.)
