PIGEON FORGE, TENNESSEE -- If you are traveling through Pigeon Forge, TN, do not call "Hotel Rates.Com, or make reservations for Country Hearth Inn, or you will be sorry.

We called Hotel Rates.Com and asked for locations of Best Western motels in Pigeon Forge, and the operator steered us to Country Hearth Inn which was NOT a Best Western. But we were told how nice it was and made reservations for two rooms for two nights and charged on Discover.

We went on internet and looked at the reviews and found that the motel looked shabby, and had reviews of being dirty, frogs in bath, insects, etc. So we called HR.Com to cancel because we had been told that we could cancel up until 4:00 p.m., but they said that we could not cancel. We protested - they called Mr [snip] the owner, and he refused to cancel.

So, we called Best Western directly and all went well thereafter. But beware of HR.Com and operators who for some reason ??? steer you to a bad motel with higher rates.

Thanks for the heads-up. I always check out the places as much as possible before booking, and then book directly with the chain website or the hotel directly. Going thru one of these third party sites like Expedia, etc. is risky---like in your case.
