NATIONALLY, TENNESSEE -- As a current dissatisfied DirecTV customer, I recommend to all considering DirecTV.....Don't do it. That is unless you don't mind experiencing service outages ever time a dark cloud passes over your house. In the last six months, I have had at least 20 service outages and of course they all happen at the worst time (waited 9 months for college football to begin and missed most of it due to a service outage caused by "bad weather in my area" (this is direcTV code for a little rain falling outside).
Additionally when you get so sick of service outages and request service cancellation cancelled is when you really get hosed. The cancellation fee is roughly $30 for each month remaining on your contract and because the initial contract term is 24 months they have you. I have 18 months left on my contract and that is over $400 I would have to pay. The way I see it they should pay me that much for missed TV time.
Bottom line, If you have a choice between cable and DirecTV (or any other satellite for that matter), choose cable. Satellite is too unreliable and DirecTV could care less because they're getting their money regardless while you sit at home watching a blank screen on your television set.
