Staples - Deceptive "Rewards" Email Advertising
Rewards Program - Complaint
BRIDGEWATER, NEW JERSEY -- Staples sent out an email ad which stated in large letters "25% Back" and then in smaller letters "in Rewards". Besides, giving the cursory reader the impression that they will get cash back, the ad also does not state that you get nothing back unless your Rewards total $10 in one quarter. So, to get anything back on the Labor Day Weekend promotion, you would need to spend at least $40. And, typically with a 5% reward, to earn $10 in one quarter you need to spend at least $200 in that quarter. Also, the fine print in the Rewards Program says that if you do happen to earn a Reward, you need to use it fast because it expires in 90 days.
Aren't loyalty programs supposed to build loyalty? This program has so many hidden "gotchas" it creates contempt for the company. Better to do away with the tricky program and just drop your prices Staples.
