Direct TV Genie
MORRIS, ILLINOIS -- DO NOT DO IT. I have had Direct TV for 15 years, but we started with PrimeStar and Direct TV bought them out. We had several issues with our DVR boxes and had to have several of them replaced. When they came out with the Genie, we thought, why not, after all, it is free. LET ME TELL YOU "WHY NOT". First of all we have 4 TV's in the house using the Genie. All three of the "follower" boxes keep freezing up or asking for a "PIN" in which we have no idea what to put in and we have to reset them every day. The "main" box will freeze up while we are trying to watch a recorded show or movie. The whole system totally sucks...big time. Don't do it until they get the bugs out, trust me. Once you switch over, they will not let you go back to the old system.
Also, we can now only watch or record 5 things at a time, therefore, if all 4 of us are watching a movie and 2 things record, 1 of us are forced to watch what is recording or what has already been recorded. At least with the DVR in each room, we didn't have to watch the same thing. I think DIRECT TV needs to do another "re-install" with much better service. I think they jumped the gun because AT&T Uverse was kicking some ass. They should have taken more time to make sure the system worked. I am in the middle of nowhere so I have no choice but to stay with Direct TV, I can't even get Comcast here.
Anyone with Direct TV needs to stay away from the Genie, at least until you hear them say "New and Improved.
