Apria Home Health Care - Apria Double Billing Medicare Clients
ILLINOIS -- Before I turned 65 my insurance paid 100% for my CPAP supplies from Apria and I was satisfied with their service. After I went on Medicare:
1) Apria billed Medicare and Medicare paid 80%
2) Apria billed United Health Care and UHC paid remaining 20%
3) Then Apria billed me for an additional 20%
This has happened with every Apria bill since I turned 65 ... at least 4 different bills... maybe more... I have lost count.
After every bill, and after many phone calls, Apria admitted that the bill to me was an error that would be corrected. Yes, they cancelled the errant bill. But No, they never corrected the computer program which was automatically causing the double bill to be sent.
I find it hard to believe that I am the only senior who is being billed for a co-pay that was already paid by their supplemental insurance. If I did not know that UHC would continue to insure that 100% of my CPAP supplies would be covered after I joined Medicare, I might have just paid the bill from Apria without question.
I have fired Apria and am now looking for a new DME provider.
