DirecTV - Early Termination Fee
CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA -- I rented an apartment in the building where DirecTV had a monopoly (no other providers) so I was pushed to sign a 2 years contract. After about year and a half I had to move to another state because of a new job and bought a condo in the building where HOA doesn't allow to install any dishes on the balcony. I informed DirecTV about this that I wish to continue my contract but I just can't. I was told that in any case I need to pay early termination fee for 7 months.
I don't want to advertise Time Warner Cable, but when I moved from the previous apartment just few days after signing a contract with TWC, they (TWC) didn't demand any termination fee because at the new address they didn't provide a service.
Also, Direct TV service was highly unreliable (the signal was lost a couple times a week and they restored them only next day or two), but this is different story.
Just stay away from them, at least try not to sign any contracts.
