Whirlpool OTR Microwave - Complaint
AKRON, OHIO -- We renovated our kitchen, and bought all stainless appliances. The microwave is an over the range unit. After about a year, the handle began to crack and disintegrate, with pieces falling off into our food. Shortly thereafter, the vent grill fell off. These parts are either plastic, or stainless steel-clad plastic and do not hold up to the heat from the range top. I've had both replaced through my extended warranty. Now the handle is cracked with broken pieces falling off, and the vent grill is beginning to show the stress cracks prior to failure. This issue is not going to stop, as it's a design issue. I've called Whirlpool customer service and they told me they've never heard of such, and since it's out of the 1 year warranty, they had nothing to offer me. I find it interesting they've never heard of the issue, but you can go to several consumer sites and get multiple reports of the same issue. So they lied to me, and don't stand by their poor product quality.
I think maybe I'll call my media friend in Cleveland to see if they want to do one of their 'consumer beware' reports on my issues.
