www.mandrakesoft.com Complaint - customer service, no return on software law

Review by migs on 2001-01-03
I normally havent purchased software, but I wanted to try Linux. I purchased a box from macmillansoftware.com of Mandrake Linux. It had a multitude of bugs in it from the start, and I still cant connect to the internet with it. Their "support" consists of asking a question by email through their site which is set up to be extremely inconvenient, then waiting for a response for a week, two weeks, a month, etc. in which they ask you questions that have no relevance to the problem. I attempted to get a refund, but it seems that the software industry has pushed a law into existance that you cant get refunds on opened software, only exchange it which does not a bit of good.

It sounds as though you are not familiar with the Linux operating system. This software isn't for inexperienced users and you should not call Mandrakesoft for help learning the software. They're not there for that. If you really want to learn Linux, you have to dedicate yourself to learning it, and get proper support. try www.linuxnewbie.org - they have a great site with an online bulletin board that you can ask questions to experienced users. Its faster, you get multiple opinions and you don't bog down the manufacturer with numerous emails. Good luck.
