Midas Informative - Incompetent intallation
HIALEAH, FLORIDA -- My Dodge Caravan started with a noise in the engine compartment. The belts needed replacing and I was in Miami visiting, so I decided to take in to the Midas shop in Hialeah. They replaced both belts. A month or so later, when checking for oil/fluids I noticed that one of the new belts was tearing. I took it to Tire Kingdom and upon inspection, I was informed that the problem was caused by a wrong installation. The belt was on backwards. It also had damaged the tension pully. I contacted Midas via their web site and got no response. I had to file a complaint with the State Consumer Protection Office (FLorida). I got a letter from Midas several weeks later, stating that the waranty period was over and that I had no claim. This had nothing to do with been under waranty or not. The problem was simply that the mechanic just made a mistake. They would not admit to it, even when I sent them a writen statement from the other shop that the belt had been installed wrong. I never got any satisfaction from Midas.
