Duraleigh Auto Center Complaint - "Unnecessary charge"

Review by bob135 on 2006-05-04
RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA -- I was charged $80.00 for a "diagnostic test" for "service engine soon" light. In fact, they advised prior to the test that a "loose gas cap" could cause the problem. Instead of "checking the cap", they performed the test. Upon arrival home I called three Buick dealers and was told that "had they simply replaced the gas cap" the "engine light" would extinguish itself after several cycles of the engine.
These people should have checked the gas cap prior to performing the diagnostic test.
This charge was "unconscionable".

I bought a "code reader" last year. I figured for the 80 buck charge they wanted for a one-time read, I could own my own and troubleshoot at home. The thing's paid for itself several times over, and I can read codes for friends and neighbors.
