Fayette Rental Service and U-Haul Rental Complaint - Improper Fuel Charges

PEACHTREE CITY, GEORGIA -- Complaint involves Fayette Rental Service and U-Haul Store located at 112 Huddleston Drive in Peachtree City, GA 30269.

Consumers should beware that if they return the truck after hours when the office is closed (so they do not get a receipt at the time the truck is returned), the people there may well record the fuel level below the actual level which will result in a large charge on the bill.

I rented a truck from them twice. The first over a recent weekend. I returned the truck and received a receipt for this rental. I had one more load to move and had to rent the truck again a few days later and returned it at 10 pm the same evening. I drove the truck only 42 miles. The rental charge including mileage was $65 however, the office charged an additional $50 for gas. The rental agreement showed fuel out at 5/8 of tank and upon return I checked very closely to ensure it was filled back to 5/8. When I saw the charge I went back to the store and Johnathan told me the fuel gague was under 1/2 tank. I told him this was absolutely wrong, but he would not budge. Then he told me that I had returned the truck on the first rental with fuel level lower than when I took it out, but he had given me a break in that case. I told him I had both the outgoing rental agreement (showing 3/4 tank) and the return receipt showing 7/8 tank. He obviously knew that I knew he was lying.

Even though it was apparent that Johnathan was lying about the first rental, he was also lying about the fuel gague level upon return of the second rental. So he tried the proverbial run-around. He told me I had to take it up with U-Haul, so I called them right there in their store on my cell. I was referred to the regional office who told me that fuel level disputes were a local matter. So back to Johnathan, and he simply did not care.

The local people in this store are obviously of questionable integrity and the attitude they displayed is that they simply do not care. They'll take the quick, dishonest buck at the expense of keeping repeat customers. They simply do not care. Avoid them if at all possible. Absolutely avoid returning items to them after hours unless you want to pay through the nose for trumped up charges.

You have to cover every base with them. When I recently rented from them I noted the mileage and gas guage and before I returned it I put in more than enough gas to make sure they couldn't hang that one on me. Lastly, if at all possible return the truck during business hours....(TIR)
