Straight Talk Wireless, Avoid Them Like The Plague!
TAMPA, FLORIDA -- I was a Straight Talk customer for a couple of years. Any time I required customer service I dreaded making a call. The Straight Talk/Tracfone biz model is to outsource customer service to illiterate, incompetent, bureaucratic Filipinos vs. competent, literate, helpful Americans.
I switched yesterday to MetroPCS (like Straight talk, using T-Mobile network). BL: MetroPCS is so much better. To begin with their customer service folks are Americans = much better CS quality. And... the LTE speed on my iPhone 5 GSM is 7x as fast as the AT&T LTE provided by Straight Talk (their T-Mobile LTE capable SIM does not provide anything better than 3G on any iPhone 5 which was not bought at Wal-Mart as a Straight Talk phone)!
So with the simple switch to MetroPCS, my iPhone 5 literally was supercharged from AT&T LTE speeds of 3-4 mb/s to no kidding 21 mb/s! My iPhone is twice as fast as the cable Internet I have in my home! As for porting my number out from Straight Talk, well just Google "Straight Talk porting problems" and read the thousands of people complaining -- my experience was worse (literally required 40 phone calls and 4.5 hours of speaking to incompetent Filipinos to get it ported out.
As for phone call quality, there is no comparison, on MetroPCS they give you the new T-Mobile "HD voice" which yields phone calls which sound like the person on the other end of the phone is standing next to you. Straight talk, well nearly every phone call I had to repeat myself b/c people said I was breaking up. MetroPCS is $5 more per month but what a value you get for your extra $15 dollars, 7x the speed, amazing call clarity, and great American Customer Service.
Do yourself a favor, AVOID Straight Talk like the plague and take the MetroPCS jump, you won't ever look back!
