Cingular Wireless Complaint - Awful Service! Beware!
Well I have a long, long story about this company. I had Cingular service since August 2005. Then, in January, our family decided to go to a family plan together. I was the only person within the family that had Cingular. So we went to Verizon and got the phones. Come to find out, when we got home, being that we live in a small area, the phones didn't work. So we returned the phones the next day. I had transferred my number from Cingular to Verizon and Verizon ported the number back to Cingular when we returned the phones. Okay. My cell wouldn't work for a long period of time. So I called Cingular and told them about the problem. They thought that it was my phone itself and told me that they would ship out another phone for me. They had no idea about the number portal situation. So I waited and waited and come to find out, no phone what-so-ever came. So I had a phone that could make outgoing calls, but could not have any incoming calls. Then, I called Cingular a few days later to cancel my account. The woman that I spoke with said that there wasn't any cancellation button on my account. She asked if I had recently ported my number. I said yes and she transferred me to the number portal department. I spoke to another person who said that my number was ported back. And then she hung up on me. So I called them back again. Another woman said that there was no cancellation button for my account (again). But she contacted someone else who worked at Cingular and came back on the phone. She told me that she was 100% sure that my account was cancelled and that I was going to get charged the early termination fee. She said that I would not get charged for that month, or ever again except for the termination fee. Then, after that, I get a bill in the mail for Cingular and my monthly charge. I was outraged. Not only that, but the bill said that I had downloaded over a dozen ringtones and had several text messages. I had turned my phone off after the woman said I would not be charged and never touched it! So I figured that everything would be okay if I didn't pay the bill. I didn't. The next month I get another bill. This time for $287! I didn't have that much money for a cell phone bill that I cancelled. So I paid what I could which was $130. And I wrote on the bill that I wanted the service cancelled and that I had called and cancelled the service to begin with. They sent me a letter in the mail that said they could not process my request. I went online to access my account to see if I could pay some of the bill off and the screen told me that I couldn't access anything because my service was cancelled. I got another bill in the mail that said if I didn't pay the rest of the amount on my account, I would have my service cancelled for good. I thought, "So what? I want my service cancelled." After that I didn't pay anything again. I get another bill in the mail (ahhh!) and it informed me that I needed to pay $257.00 for "Government fees and other charges". Whatever they were. So I never paid that either. I just didn't have the money and I felt that I didn't need to because I never used my phone. Well, today I get a call from a "G and S Collection Agency" for Cingular. And they asked me if I refusing to pay my bill. I said no because I eventually plan on paying them. The collection agency was like, "What do you want to do?" I said that I had paid the bill. They said that I needed to call my bank and ask them to stop payment on the check if the check hadn't been cashed. And if it had, I was to call Cingular. So I called Cingular and they said that, since my account was cancelled, they could not access my account. But my bank said that the check had been cashed by them and the collection agency said to call Cingular and tell them they made a mistake. But, since the woman couldn't enter my account, she said that she didn't believe me and that there was nothing she could do. The collection agency called me back (they told me they would to see what was going on) and informed me that there was nothing they could do, either. And, because I had failed to pay, (which was not true), my credit score was going to be affected greatly if I didn't by pay credit card/check over the phone before 9pm tonight. And that, if I did not pay by 9pm tonight, my credit score would go down 100 points or more and it would be on my credit score for at least 17 years! WHAT????????????????????????????????????? I didn't have a credit card that I could put it on, and I didn't have $300 in the bank that I could use to pay them at that moment. Plus, why should I pay them a second time and be out all of that money again? So I don't know what to do. I am just informing all of you NOT to use Cingular. It has terrible customer service....it's like talking to a wall. Now I have no clue what is going on with my account and whether or not I will get another bill in the mail. WARNING: DO NOT USE CINGULAR!
UPDATE: I paid Cingular last night in the amount of $257.00 that they said was due over the phone. I had to use the automated phone payment. But today I receieved a letter in the mail from the collection agency that called me. That said I owed $297. And yesterday, my brother told me that someone called for me. No one and I mean no one calls for me. I assume that was the collection agency. But, hopefully, everything is under control now. I will update you folks again if I receive any other bills.
