RCA/Thomson Complaint - Rca and customer service - HD Television

HD Television - Complaint
Review by smartgirl1121 on 2006-05-31
PASADENA, MARYLAND -- About a year ago, I purchased a HD Scenium 50 inch television from RCA. 10 months later, I had a small gray corner in the picture and had the television brought into an authorized dealer for repair. A month later, no repair had been done. RCA could not find the part they needed and finally agreed to buy back the television at the price I purchased it. That was 2 months ago. No TV, no check. You can call consumer service-the wait is 60 minutes, no matter when you call. I finally spoke to a human. he has no record of the buy back, which I have in writing. If you ask to speak to a supervisor, I am told there is no supervisor on site. The customer service rep agreed to contact HDQ (Where IS HDQ anyway?) thru email. You can't call them? I ask. No, they don't have a phone number to HDQ. He said I should have an answer in 2 days. It is now a week later. So, herer I sit, out of 3K and the TV sits at the repair shop. I don't think i have ever encountered customer service like this in my life, especially from where we think is a reputable company.

Thanks for the informative post. You're obviously a "baby-boomer" or carefully raised by one. Many of us developed brand loyalty to products our parents found reliable in the 1950s, 60s, and early 70s. Sadly, as you found out, RCA is no longer the "reputable" company it once was. Given your experience with their CSRs, it's likely there is no supervisor. And, they may really not have a phone at "HDQ". A passing water buffalo may have broken the phone line into the grass-roofed hut where their outsourced CSRs reside.

lol DocJ. Yes, RCA is on my "don't buy" list and has been since 1995.

Hey Sheriff...long time no see! Welcome back! I think a lot of us are putting RCA into the "don't buy" category. Yes?

(Calibration needs to be performed by a qualified technician, so discuss it with your dealer before purchase, or contact the Imaging Science Foundation at imagingscience.com or 561-997-9073.)

RCA, like Zenith and all other American TV manufacturers are all sourced overseas now. They don't seem to have the same quality as the more popular Japanese imports. Sad we went from making the world's best tv's to not even having compatible ones made for us.

Hi there Doc J. How are you?

HDQ = Headquarters?

I had the same experience smartgirl. I returned a product under warranty and couldn't get RCA/Thomson to replace it. Call 317-587-4450. It's Thomson HQ. Select option 1 then press 2 for Dave Arland or 3 for James Harper. You might get some results.
