Unless, as at higher quality stores (obviously excluding Wal-Mart) the purchaser states that the purchase is a "gift". If a gift-giver wants to be truly remembered...buy quality items from local, quality stores. Pay cheap...get cheap.

Magnavox is a great piece of equipment! I've had a Magnavox TV for 18 years and not a thing has gone wrong!

I have a Magnavox TV also that is about 18-20 years old. Still works like new. Unfortunately, the poster is not having problems with that model. Their new stuff stinks.

The MPD720 is a pretty nice portable DVD player. What exactly happened to it, pissed off?

Oops, my question was aimed at the poster, pissed AT.

Giving a DVD player to a 5 year old... 20 minute lifetime sounds about right.

Ken-You explained why people go into debt. Buying stupid stuff to be over-solicitous of kids. I guess parents think they'll go to prison for child-abuse if they only gave their kids an oatmeal box as a toy drum. Somebody, please give this poor out-of-touch soul (me) a real reason a 5 year-old needs a $300 DVD player!

I BOUGHT A DVD PLAYER THAT ALSO WAS DEFECTIVE, AND WAS TOLD " SORRY NOTHING THEY COULD DO".
MAGNAVOX IS NOT THE SAME COMPANY I REMEMBER FROM YEARS AGO. BUYERS BEWARE!!

I'm reasonably sure that Phillips/Magnavox, like many manufacturers, have their share of defects. The real issue seems to be their unwillingness to bear the cost of fixing or replacing those items and choosing to screw the consumer instead of making it right. The message that that potential buyers need to know is this company won't stand by their products. Buy from someone else!!!!
