Used MapQuest to Get Accurate Directions Within the City I Live In

GREAT FALLS, MONTANTA -- I know that driving directions aren't always accurate with MapQuest, so I checked with my school to make sure the directions from MapQuest were correct. I live here except I never went to the south side of the city. I am unfamiliar with the streets on the south side. MapQuest gave me directions with an extra two miles added to the route. I live in the North west. MapQuest had me heading North east only to head south. I am familiar with the North east side so I knew the map was off.

It is a free service, but people in need of free help should not be overlooked because of their inability to pay. I recently purchased an iPhone. I now use the Map app on my iPhone. It is accurate and took over seven miles off our family vacation drive. If AOL, (MapQuest's parent company), doesn't take responsibility for MapQuest's in accuracy then I wonder why they offer the service. They must get a tax cut or something for a free site. When people do something to help, even when it's free, their work is an example of their ethical standards.

Wrong Address and Directions Listed.

KATY, TEXAS -- I am a business owner and my address is listed INCORRECTLY! Therefore directions are incorrect. I have written at least three emails and this problem still has not been corrected! As if that weren't bad enough when I expressed my frustration I got an email from a "real person" with the following comment: All earlier mails were automatically generated mail for every time you replied back to us. Sorry that those mail bother you. This is first time a person is handling your request.

I don't think that is an appropriate tone for addressing an unhappy customer. If my customers can't find my business the potential for losing customers is a real problem.

Unreliable Directions

The last few times I've used MapQuest, the directions have been wrong. Today I mapped directions from and to specific addresses in an unfamiliar area. MapQuest had me follow a major roadway that no longer exists. Seems like the road name was changed a few years ago, but MapQuest never updated. Will never use them again!

Provided Bad Info/Extra 40 Miles
By -

I was using Mapquest for an accurate distance to the nearest Home Depot. From my home to a location on Crismon Road in Mesa, AZ, Mapquest listed it at 94.68 miles. I found this odd considering it happens the be the same direction I drive to go to work in North Phoenix which is only 96 miles away. Looking closer at the directions provided, it tells me to TURN E ON US60 FOR 19.95 MILES. The next step tells me MAKE A U-TURN ON US60 W FOR 54.02 MILES.

"A U-TURN"!!! REALLY??? If I had not known these roads, and trusted Mapquest by step, I would have traveled an additional 40 miles, and worse, US60 E/W is under construction at that step and has heavy delays. I will never trust Mapquest.

  1. Start out going SOUTHEAST on X. XXXXX RD. toward E XXX XXX RD. 0.04

  2. Turn RIGHT onto E XXX XXX RD. 0.13

  3. Turn RIGHT onto AZ-177. 20.20

  4. Merge onto US-60 E. 19.95

  5. Make a U-TURN onto US-60 W. 54.02

  6. Take the CRISMON RD exit, EXIT 192. 0.34

  7. Turn RIGHT onto S CRISMON RD. 0.06 st.

NAPLES, FLORIDA -- I will NEVER believe MapQuest again as long as I live!! What a screwed up business!! Yeah we get it 'free' but they get money from somewhere to put bad directions for people to use. I drove an hour out of my way and my car is not in great shape!! I ended up in a questionable part of a town I was not familiar with. It is NOT RIGHT for MapQuest to continue to give directions that are wrong!! SHAME ON YOU BUNCH OF MORONS!!!
