Norm Reeves Honda - Cerritos, CA Complaint - Bad Mechanical Service - Mgmt no help

Review by 90713PC on 2006-07-04
CERRITOS, CALIFORNIA -- I took my car upon a regular basis to Norm Reeves Honda (apx. 6 years). I had my oil changed regularly, and maintained all the other required or suggested services. I never went to any other service center. Norm Reeves in Cerritos worked on my car exclusivly, as long as I owned it.

At one point, I had all the gaskets changed, as suggested by service tech. A couple of days later, I noticed an oil leak. I called several times, and spoke with a several diff. service techs. They each told me the same thing over and over.."there is no proof we caused your leak, ma'am.
I took the car into Norm Reeves, and explained again to the service tech that recommened the service..
It was obvious that there was something that had occurred during the previous service. The Service Tech. told me they'd have to charge me $70.00 to find the problem. I explained that they are the cause of the problem. He was well aware that the car had been serviced 3 days prior...I suggested he has a mechanic look through the engine to make sure all bolts are tightened. He refused, and advised me to make an appointment and pay the $70.00 to have the leak traced.
I spoke with the manager. She said the same thing. I refused to pay them anymore money.

After paying them hundreds of dollars for changine the gaskets and belts, and oil, I wasn't about to pay another $70.00 for them to find a leak that they created. What kind of bad joke is that...I asked my brother to look at the car.
It took my brother 5 minutes to find the problem. He said the problemis with 2 bolts on the valve cover. One bolt was striped, and the other bolt was not tightened down enough. My brother fixed it for me. Thus..no more leakage. Thanks to my Brother.
Also, prior to this,I had to wait over 2 months for a part (wiper blade) to come in.
Each time I called, the service tech said they didin't have any record that the part was ordered. He assured me to make an appointment, and the part would be in when I arrived.
I showed up for my scheduled appointment (3 diff times), and no part. It was crazy.

I love the Honda automobile, But, I'll never go to Norm Reeves again...not even to buy a new car.
Here's the topper...Norm Reeves Honda sent my boyfriend (Toyota driver), and nice letter with free car shammie. You'd think after all the money I paid them, they would have sent me something for free.
UPDATE: I bought a new car. Not a Honda.
I no longer drive a Honda, as I do not know of a reliable Honda customer service center near my home.

Oh man I would have been livid! So since the new car is not a Honda, what manufacturer did you go with?

The poster cites yet another sterling example of the growing business ethic that revolves around "once signed, soon forgotten". One would think that loyalty to a business would have some weight...not as long as it's more profitable to hook new fish. Good luck and thanks.

The days of the helpful car dealer service departments are mostly long gone. Glad your brother was able to fix it for you.

You did the right thing, refusing to pay the $70, three days after the car was serviced. The dealer should have at least "looked" at the car, especially based on the fact that you have been a customer at that dealer for 6 years. Hope you have good luck with your new car!

"But, I'll never go to Norm Reeves again...not even to buy a new car...UPDATE: I bought a new car. Not a Honda. " the most powerful words and action a consumer can make. You may want to find a referral for a good mechanic, that is tread carefully with dealer mechanics. Tread very, very carefully. Heed my warning.

Call the better buisness bureau or threaten them with calling them and see what they say.
