Royal Caribbean Complaint - UNJUST & UNFAIR
LONG BEACH, CALIFORNIA -- My boyfriend and I were booked a trip to Ensenada, Mexico on July 7-10, 2006. Because of our ages, were not able to take a cruise for our 1-year anniversary, so we decided to wait and celebrate our 2-year with Royal Caribbean. In other words, this trip was a long time coming and we were REALLY looking forward to finally being able to spend some time together because of our busy schedules.
Our ship: Monarch of the Seas, was to set sail from the port of Long Beach on that Friday afternoon at 5:30pm. We drove ALL the way from Ventura County to Long Beach for 3 hours. Of course, being a Friday, LA traffic was horrendous and we found ourself stuck in it. We called guest services several times and indicated that we would be at most 10 minutes late and if they couldn't delay the check-in process a bit longer. Each time, we were told that there was nothing anyone could do and that 5pm was the latest time we would be able to check-in.
We raced as fast as we could to get to the port on time, only to be stopped by the imbecilic security guard, who told us that we were 3 minutes late and that they were not taking anymore passengers. We could not believe it!! We had paid nearly $1,000 and waited an entire year for this trip and because we were a mere 3 minutes late, were not allowed to board??!!?? There was another couple who had actually came 2 minutes late and were not allowed on either. As we sat on our cellphones trying to get through to a representative from Royal Caribbean, 3 more parties arrived, and were all stopped from entering. One man even had his wife on the ship!!! And another girl had drove so fast to get to the port on time, that her car's engine was completely in fumes by the time she arrived. Unfortunately, we were ALL told that the captain was not taking anymore passengers.
I really do not see why they couldn't have delayed setting sail for 10 more minutes to let 8 more people on. While we were sitting there on hold, we saw the ship leave the port, still trying desperately to reason with the idiotic security guard. We were holding onto ALL hope to maybe, just maybe, we still might be able to get on. But no...
All I have to say is, I find it entirely impossible that there was NOTHING anyone could do. And now, there are 8 very angry individuals who are going to do anything in their power to get reimbursed. I know myself and my boyfriend will NEVER AGAIN book any trip that is associated with Royal Caribbean. Furthermore, I will be telling everyone I know about this unjust that we have experienced.
