Charging for, but not balancing tires. - Complaint
Review by zkozeranch on 2006-07-09
SAN RAMON, CALIFORNIA -- Big O Tires, in San Ramon, California. I'd taken my car in for 2 new rear tires. Big O had the car for 2 hours, I came back paid for and picked up my car. Several days later I took my car to the dealership for service. When I hit the freeway the steering wheel started to shake violently, I called the dealership immediately to complain about the problem. The dealer ship said they'd rotated the tires and that possibly the problem was that the tires needed to be balanced. When I got home I checked the new tires that were now on the front of my vehicles. NO BALANCING THINGYS. I called Big O, San Ramon, and told them of my problem. I looked at my reciept I'd gotten from Big O a few days before, sure enough, I'd been charged for 'balancing' of tires. Big O told me 'no problem' bring it in and they would rectify the problem, NOT!!! I had to leave town and be in another city several hours away, when I took in the car, I had 1 hour before I was to leave the city. Big ZERO staff told me it'd be 3 or 4 hours till they could GET TO MY CAR!!! They ignored the fact that they'd not balanced the tires but still charged me, I told them FORGET THE BALANCE, I CAN'T WAIT, JUST PUT THE NEW TIRES BACK ON THE REAR OF THE CAR. THE STAFF WAS VERY UNCOOPERATIVE, NO CUSTOMER SERVICE, ACTED LIKE THEIR MISTAKE WAS NOT THERE PROBLEM, AND, TOO BAD THEY'D SCREWED UP AND LEFT ME IN A TIGHT SPOT, "SORRY, FIRST COME FIRST SERVE" It did not phase them that I'd been this stores customer since 1995, and had Several different TRUCKS, AND CARS tired by them.

If the original shop can't work you in to finish the job you already paid for, go to a competitor's shop for the balancing. If your tire fails or your vehicle is damaged, the original shop is likely to attempt to duck the warranty "because the tires weren't balanced". It's a Catch-22. Balancing isn't expensive and it'll give you pleasure knowing that you didn't go back to the cretins at the first shop. Good luck!

I agree with doc and you must remember you are in CA and that is how they do things there.
