Dish Network Complaint - Dish Network - Terrible Customer Service
LANSING, MICHIGAN -- We had Dish Network for six days. We had problems with the reciever starting on day 2 - No signal on TV2. I called for tech support and they walked me through the troubleshooting proceedures, but after a half hour of pressing buttons, nothing helped. They offered to send a technician to my house.
On day 4 a private contractor came and replaced the reciever. The contractor claimed the original problem was voltage back-feeding through my ground rod, trhough the ground wire, into the dish, and into the cable going into the house, then into the reciever.
I told the contractor I didn't think so, since there are no wires in the ground where the dish was grounded, and the original installer would have gotten zapped had there been voltage present at the ground rod. I confirmed my suspicions by using a mulitmeter and observing that the voltage at the ground rod was zero.
I should mention that I'm a generator technician with the Air National Guard, so I know a little about electricity, and proper grounding.
When the contractor left, the system worked because he'd installed a new reciever. It started giving us problems later that day. The most common problem was loosing the satellite signal. When I called tech support they walked me through the troubleshooting - presss this, press that, etc., but nothing helped.
On the sixth day I'd watched tv 2 days. I decided to cancell.
Dish Network told me they would send some pre-addressed, pre-paid boxes so I can send back the equipment. It's been a week and no boxes. I called this morning to get the adddress so I can send the equipment at my own cost (otherwise they'll charge my credit card for the cost of the equipment). The customer service person I spoke to didn't even offer to send the boxes to me. It seems they had no intention of ever sending me the boxes.
Dish Network has been a disappointing experience. I signed up to have satellite TV, not to monkey around with the system going through troubleshooting sequences all day. Customer service has been poor. They only thing customer service is adept at is trying to talk you out of cancelling. I'll never even consider doing business with them again. I'll be watching TV for another 25 years, at least, but it will never be Dish Network.
