FOKAS EYECARE Complaint - Unethical Practice

Review by katpower on 2006-07-14
ASTORIA, NEW YORK -- Beware. This doctor will coax you into trying on a contact lense, then charge you for it. He does not warn you about a $50 charge JUST to try on lenses. He charges you what your insurance already has paid for and refuses to give you you prescription that has been paid for by the insurance company, wanting you to pay for it again!!VERY nasty receptionist, no tact or grace whatsoever.

A number of states, if not all, have held that an eyeglass or CL Rx belongs to the patient. Additionally, you may wish to check with reps from US Health and Human Services...the Health Information Privacy and Portability Act contains provisions stating that the information on a chart or in the custody of a physician (any health care provider) cannot be withheld from the patient. You may have been charged $50 as a CL "fitting fee"...a professional service that is billable...however I disagree with talking someone into a procedure without full disclosure of its cost. Good luck!
