Intuit Informative - Jones'in for some Intuit - Quickbooks

Quickbooks
Review by confusion on 2006-07-18
NEW JERSEY -- Has anyone else out there purchased Quickbooks, only to find that the minute you do, Intuit is trying to sell you everything under the sun??

My goodness what a brilliant marketing technique, first sell the software then make it nearly impossible to use properly without 10,000 subscriptions from Intuit!

But its a technique that works darn good, for me anyway. Excellent program. Really quite phenomenal. All these little plug-in services are getting pricey though! (I think I pay about $12/month for a payroll service, for example, which does nothing but automatically download tax tables and calculate withholdings).

Its like I'm addicted to Quickbooks. Never before had such a broad and clear view of where my business is at any time. But please no more soliciting!

I think Intuit was once a fine company...recent events have changed my mind, and I won't ever do business with them again.

I purchased Turbo Tax this year, as I do every year. There has always been some kind of rebate. When I submitted it this year, what I got back was a ten dollar gift card from Staples, good only for 'certain' Intuit products. In other words, useless.

When I submitted my taxes electronically, I ponied up the $29.95 fee for them to process it electronically. (It was $14.95 last time). When you click OK, then then inform you that they will direct your refund through Santa Barnara Trust. Now from a banking perspective, this is completely unnecessary... the IRS will direct deposit to your own bank account. Come to find out, SBTC charges you an ADDITIONAL $29.95 for the transfer...which you didn't need in the first place. They cleverly design their screens so that when you are OKing the $29.95 fee, you don't realize that you are OKing two different fees. I ended up paying almost $60 (quadruple) for what cost me fifteen bucks last time. It was pretty slimey overall.

So, in a nutshell, they got me once...shame on me. But, I'll never again do any business with this outfit, I just plain don't trust them.

I appriciate both your posts and inputs. I have heard so much about Turbo Tax I was going to try it next year. Is it just the hidden fee that's bad or the entire software that's a rip off? I don't pay much more than that for my CPA and it's also done electronically. I just thought I'd give it a try and save a couple bucks.
