Buyer Beware! Terrible Workmanship

PORTSMOUTH, NEW HAMPSHIRE -- Buyer Beware! Sheds USA sells through Home Depot. The doors on my shed were warped upon installation. It took several weeks from the time that I called for the "repair technicians" to come. They proceeded to block plane the doors in place making a huge mess in my yard and making the doors even worse. I then called to have them replaced. After several more weeks the doors were replaced with 2 doors that look like a child made them, and the lumber used looks like it was rough cut with a buzz saw. I called and told them that I no longer want any of their amateurs working on my shed, but would instead like a partial refund. They agreed to a $300.00 refund ( the original cost of the shed was $2571.15).

After a week and a half and several phone calls I was finally told that I would have to drive down to Home Depot to get my refund. When I got there the manager of Copiague Home Depot said that he would speak to Sheds USA about getting me more money back. He did no such thing! I called Sheds USA to tell them that I did not like the way that this all went down and I think that I should get more money back and I was accused of "holding them hostage". I now submit pictures of my door repair experience and you decide if you want to buy a shed from Home Depot (Sheds USA).

Good Shed, but Very Bad Experience

PORTSMOUTH, NEW HAMPSHIRE -- I bought a $3000 custom 10'x12' shed for our backyard. I had purchased a shed from ShedsUSA about a decade earlier (for a different home), and am from New Hampshire (where ShedsUSA is located), so was excited to buy another one for our new home in Virginia. The purchasing process through Home Depot was great, and the actual quality of the shed (so far) is good, so no complaints there. But the experience overall has been poor because of two issues with the installation.

First, the installers arrived without the proper working equipment. One of the big selling points of ShedsUSA is that you don't need to be there when they install, but their generator broke, and I needed to leave work to open the house so that they could run an extension cord from my basement to the installation site. While accidents happen and sometimes things break, I was disappointed that the installation team didn't seem to have any authorization to rent a generator locally to complete the job.

When they called me, I was told they needed to get back to NJ (the installation team's home base), and my only options were to come home and let them plug in, or reschedule. I need the shed ASAP, so I left work to let them plug in. The installers were professional and polite, but clearly need to be given more authority to rent tools should their equipment be faulty. They also left the job site messy, though I guess this was due to their working into the evening and not seeing the shingles and wood scraps left around the yard.

The bigger issue was the location of the shed. The company sends you flags to mark where you want the shed, which I carefully placed in the exact spot where I wanted the shed. I obtained a permit waiver from my town and very carefully measured where I wanted the shed, but it was placed several feet away from the measured spot. We are in the process of renovating this house, and every square foot of backyard is important. There are no zoning or structural issues with the location where I wanted the shed, so it is unclear to me why they wouldn't put it where I asked. It just seemed lazy and lacking attention to detail.

When I called to complain, a very helpful customer service representative (Janet **) advised me whom to contact, and I sent a letter with my issues and was immediately told that they would move the shed to the right spot. A “District Coordinator” would contact me to arrange moving the shed.

Five days went by, and I heard nothing. I followed up, and was then called by the district coordinator Denise, who more or less told me that the person who would move the shed was “traveling”, had no idea when they would contact me, and then asked me a series of follow-up questions (based on the photos I sent them) that seemed to be more interested in finding a mistake in where I wanted the shed rather than to put it where I asked.

Meanwhile, I am in the middle of moving to this house, and cannot put anything into the shed because it has to be empty for them to move it. I cannot wait any longer, and should I not hear from them today am going to tell them to forget it and load it up. The several feet may not seem like much, but our yard is small and it is important. The lack of attention to detail and the poor follow-up leave me very disappointed in ShedsUSA and with this purchase.

Lowe's sells Heartland sheds (heartlandind.com), and I will definitely go with them for any subsequent shed purchases. I feel bad writing that, as Home Depot did everything right and was very helpful, and this is not their fault.

EAST QUOGUE, NEW YORK -- Getting a shed from Home Depot who uses Sheds USA. We had the shed installed 8-29-16. The shed itself is great. Home Depot was great. The owner of USA is also great. The installers are bad. I will tell you now, run, run away and go somewhere else. They give you flags to mark on the ground. He was off by 3 ft and my shed is off center by 3 ft. The shed looks like it going to fall with the first wind storm. I now have to buy blocks and reinforce the shed. The owner was nice and said he would move it and fix it but I don't want those guys in my yard!!! They don't clean up after themselves. Run, run to a real shed builder.

Horrible Experience With SHEDS USA

LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY -- I bought a shed for 5,100$ and waited over a month for it then 30 minutes before install they call and say they broke it and don't know when they would have a new one. I waited for another week and when they show up they throw part by part onto my driveway from 15 feet up. Finally when the walls are up I notice they stop working for a half hour so I walk out and they tell me the roof wasn't cut with enough room to nail it down and I need a new one.

I sit by them as each time they call a manager he tells them make it work, finally the third time he tells his manager "if I hear just make it work one more time I'll lose it." So the manager asks if I would be ok with them adding a shim to drill into but when they put it up you can see the sky through the roof. Had I not walked out they would have done so without me knowing until it was too late.

They finally decide I need two new gables and leave without giving me a time or date or covering the open ceiling. I HAVE A SHED IN MY YARD WITHOUT A ROOF AND ALL THE SUPPLIES SITTING IN MY YARD. They never called me with a time so I called and left a message asking when it will be finished because it's getting ready to rain. I have video of all of this because when I saw them throwing my shed off the truck I knew it was going to be damaged. This company is dishonest, poor quality, horrible customer service, overpriced and I will never recommend anyone purchase from them.

Worst experience with a company

PORTSMOUTH, NEW HAMPSHIRE -- Bought a $1500 shed through Home Depot, who uses Sheds USA for delivery/installation. I immediately contacted Sheds USA for an installation date, and learned the earliest date was 2 months later. That was disappointing, but I didn't mind too much and the instructions were pretty simple. The day before installation, they contacted me and said they had to push it back further even though I already took off work for that day so it was a little irritating. I was at work and busy, so I just accepted the new date. When I immediately told my wife, she attempted to contact the company for a reason and they hung up on her twice.

Eventually, using Home Depot, we made contact with a supervisor who stated their entire staff in my region quit. She assured us they would have their best crew install about a week or so later. I got a new confirmation date and timeframe 12-4PM. So during that new date no one showed up by 2PM, so my wife, who already took off work and was sitting by the window waiting, called 4 times to Sheds USA with no answer (the number we previously spoke to them on and the number they gave us to call about issues with delivery). I already had my gate open and area marked off which was done over a week before since I had anticipated a delivery then.

Again I tried to call the company, with no answer. The next day, we cancelled our order through Home Depot since Sheds USA didn't deliver on two dates and didn't answer their phones. Two days later Home Depot called saying that Sheds USA said they tried to install the shed, but couldn't get access to our yard and I didn't answer their calls. This was obviously a bunch of lies since my wife was home all day watching for them (I also have 2 dogs who go crazy if anyone even drives by our house), my phone and wife's phone didn't get called (both numbers were provided), and my gate was open and area marked off.

Sheds USA even states that no one needs to be home for installation, but we wanted someone there because of the obvious issues we already had with this company. I even took photos earlier because I didn't trust them after I saw other reviews and my experience of me marking off the area. I never have complained about a company since I am pretty laid back and very understanding, but the issues with this company needs to be addressed. Do not waste your money and time on this awful company.

Could Not Get Promised Parts for Several Weeks

PORTSMOUTH, NEW HAMPSHIRE -- I purchased a play set. It was missing all the accessories except for the slide. They said they would send me them right away. A month later I called and they said they had no record of the order. Order again and they said it would be another two weeks. I got them yesterday. It was a big box with the chains and rocks, but no swings or anchors. I called again and they said they had it on record that everything was in the box. So they reorder the swings and anchors for the third time. I asked for it to be expedited, but the woman could not guarantee it. So I have had a swing set sitting in my yard for 5 weeks that is basically useless.

Bought a shed 3 months ago, had to cancel due to the job was canceled every week with no excuse. After the sixth cancellation, the installer actually called me and explained he wasn't coming on my 7th appointment due to the fact that he had not been paid for the last couple of jobs, and I don't blame him as I would not work for free. Now with this knowledge I call Sheds USA and asked when will I have my install - only to be told, "well we don't know when."

And Home Depot continues to use these so-called professionals is mind numbing. If Sheds USA would like to argue anything I've said, I will gladly produce recorded conversations where they admit to ** me over. Ball is in your court Sheds USA/HIP install.

Horrible Delivery Service

The shed was to be delivered and we paid extra to have the parts hand carried from the end of our driveway to the back of the lot - approximately 180 ft. We put up signs in the yard showing the direction to carry the parts. The man who delivered it insisted that he would drive back to the site. Three and four inch ruts were left in our side yard and a small tree was knocked over. (I have video of this happening.)

A waiver had been signed saying we did NOT want the shed assembled. They would NOT reduce the cost of the shed even though we are assembling it ourselves. I confirmed with the person who called about our delivery (which was two days late because their truck had broken down) that the shed was not to be assembled, just the parts delivered. When I looked out the window they were starting to put the shed together. If I had not been home at the time the shed was delivered, I would have arrived to find an assembled shed. NOT what we wanted. TOTAL LACK OF COMMUNICATION. I left a message with Customer Service, but have not heard back from them. It is Saturday.

The Warranty Is a Scam

PORTSMOUTH, NEW HAMPSHIRE -- I found a small crack on one of the siding panels a few weeks after the shed was installed. Since I purchased a lifetime 'limited' warranty, I expected that I could just contact them to come and replace it. Little did I know that the warranty basically excludes EVERYTHING, thus they offered to come repair the cracked 2 feet of siding for $132!!! BUYER BEWARE... the lifetime warranty covers NOTHING for the lifetime of the shed!! Shame on me for not combing through it before purchasing it, but conveniently, the warranty is nowhere to be found on the website which ironically boasts "the best warranty in the business"!!

I ordered a shed from Home Depot who uses Sheds USA as their supplier. I made several calls to Sheds USA about an installation date, I was told, "We do not have a date yet. Call back in 3 days". This went on for over 6 weeks, I had to call them. They never called me. I finally received an installation date (2 months after by purchase date). I received a call from Sheds USA on the morning the shed was to be installed and they canceled the installation for no reason. I was told I would receive a call back that evening with a new date, surprise no callback. I received a call 2 days later saying the shed was scheduled to be installed on Saturday which was only 2 days away. I agreed to the date, when Saturday came we waited and waited for the shed, Sheds USA was a NO SHOW.

I received an E-mail from Sheds USA on Sunday saying please activate your shed warranty. When I called Monday to say my shed was not installed on Saturday they seemed surprised. I was told, "We will get back to you shortly with a new installation date". I then called Home Depot who I had purchased the shed from to cancel the order. I was told I had to call Sheds USA to cancel even though I purchased the shed from Home Depot with my Home Depot Credit Card. I called Sheds USA to cancel and the lady said, "We are working on a new install date for you". I stated I have waited over 2 months and want to cancel the order. I don't know who to blame Sheds USA or Home Depot for using them as their shed supplier.
