SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA -- I can't stand writing reviews but I feel obligated to write this one. Hopefully it will drive business away from Hotels-Rates.com. They mislead me and ultimately cost me money and cut my vacation short. I was an hour outside San Francisco and needed a room quickly. Their phone representative told me that there was a room in a motel near all of the attractions for $279 a night. That price included parking and all taxes. To be brief none of that was true. The hotel was over an hour away from Fisherman's Wharf in a terrible neighborhood and parking and taxes were not included. The motel, The Civic Center Motor Inn, was at best a seedy dump.

The room smelled of water damage, the bed was cheap with uncomfortable metal springs, and everything else was filthy and rundown. The city was booked solid because of the Pride Parade and we felt stuck. So we took a taxi into the heart of the city and tried to put it out of our minds. When we returned to the room later that night there were several loud drunks gathered outside so I closed the window and turned on the air conditioning to drown them out. Not only did the air conditioner not work, but it made huge mechanical banging sounds. I called the front desk and they told me that they were aware of it and that it would be repaired the following day.

So we were basically up the entire night. We couldn't open the window because of the noise, the room was hot and the bed was torturous. We were a mess the next morning, so we packed up and drove home. I've made several calls to both the booking site and the motel over the last week. The hotel refuses to admit that the air conditioner was broken and they won't call me back. Hotels-Rates.com refunded their service charge, but, after supposedly listening to my original call to their agent, deny ever telling me that the hotel was near the city's attractions or that taxes were included. You can read several reviews online similar to mine. Please avoid both of these businesses.

CALIFORNIA -- I made a reservation with this company without looking at the site. After giving them my credit card number and booking they then sent me a email that says my reservation was for 1 bed 1 person when I clearly told him I needed 2 beds because there would be two of us. Then I see there is a no cancellation policy which the agent failed to mention!! Also a $23.99 service fee which he also didn't mention in our conversation!!

So when I call them pretty much told me there was nothing they could do. And I can't dispute it with my credit card co because of the no cancellation policy!! I mean shame on me for not doing my homework. I will never use them again when making a reservation!!! So so dishonest of the agent to not disclose these things.

MISSOURI -- Online looking for Pet Friendly hotels. Spoke with reservationist by phone about our dogs. He made reservations at a very nice, pet friendly hotel, which he assured me included the dogs. Paid by credit card and was assured this included the dogs. Arrived and was told they had no rooms available as reserved by hotels-rates.com, and they also had no pet friendly rooms available.

The Desk Manager worked very hard to accommodate us with our pets, and was okayed (by his boss I guess) to assign us a different room, but pets would be an additional $60. Not what I was told while making the reservations... hotels-rates.com told me what I needed to hear in order to get my credit card number, and the end result was a ripoff. I suggest to NEVER BUY on Hotel-rates. You will get screwed and waste money. Be careful.

MIAMI, FLORIDA -- I don't write reviews a lot but I felt like it was necessary. My child had a fever and we needed to be close to Miami Children's Hospital so we booked Biltmore Hotel. It cost $257 so we got the hotel. We drove for an hour and twenty minutes. When we got to the hotel they told us that they didn't get the reservation. My daughter wasn't feeling well. They said they were all booked. I was really mad. I showed them the email and God's will a 1 bed. We had three people. We were upset. The heater broke I didn't know what to do. I suggest to NEVER BUY on Hotel rates. You will get screwed and waste money. Be careful.

I booked a room through Hotel-Rates.com. They charged me $150.00. I cancelled the room well before the required 72 hours and they still charged me the total cost!! It says that no refund is given once reservation is confirmed. Well the confirmation comes immediately after making the reservation, so you do not have any time to cancel. They are a scam!!! Now they can go and book the room again and get a full rate again. USERS BE AWARE!!! DO NOT USE HOTEL-RATES.COM

SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI -- We made reservations thru this company for Madison Wisconsin to attend a college graduation. With current virus crisis, graduation was cancelled. I have tried to cancel the reservation online as directed 3 times as well as trying to voice call several times. This company is a non customer service operation. In looking at reviews from other people I am not the only one they have tried to deceive and steal money from. Be aware, do not do business with them.

ATHENS, GEORGIA -- Thought I was calling the Hilton. Somehow they get you to dial their no. On Google or something and they don't identify themselves when I was making reservation. They charge so much more than the hotel does like $40 more per night. I called them back and they refunded me after I told them I would dispute.

I booked a hotel with Hotel-rates.com. The agent suggested a hotel in my price range. I asked him if when I get there and I'm not satisfy with the hotel, can I be re-booked at another hotel. He responded yes. Well, I didn't like how the hotel looked and called to be re-booked and was told that cannot happen. I asked to be refunded and was told that a call review had to be done to check if there was any agent error. I was sent an email saying there was no agent error therefore, I cannot be refunded. I called back and was told that I cannot be transferred to that department.

In the course of the conversation, the agent hanged up on me. I called back a week later, since the issue wasn't resolved and got the same runaround. It's been almost a month and the issue still not resolved. I will never use this service again!
