Rocky Mountain Eye Center, Inc. Complaint - Blindness after eye surgery

Review by injustice on 2006-07-26
PUEBLO (MONTBELLO), COLORADO -- In our opinion, my husband's eye surgery with RMEC should have never been scheduled. Instead, my husband should have been referred elsewhere. This is because the doctor that performed the surgery (specializing in that procedure)left RMEC two weeks later. It was such a quick departure, that a new replacement was not available for two months. President of RMEC took over for my husband's post-operative care. My husband communicated "red flags" but it was not until almost one month that he finally referred my husband. By that time it was too late. The referral doctor looked at my husband as if in horror. He told my husband he was blind in that eye! The RMEC President failed to use ordinary care when he did not immediately refer my husband to a specialist. We put our trust in these "professionals". We know of other patients that believe they too are also victims of malpractice by RMEC. Please contact me if you or someone else you know believe you are also. We believe improper follow up resulted in unacceptable substandard care. We also believe *names removed* & Rocky Mountain Eye Center, Inc. behaved unethically resulting in patient abandonment & ultimately blindness without apology.

Sounds like you need to talk to a lawyer.

Oh my god, so sorry to hear that. Please find a lawyer. Sounds very serious.

Did you get a second opinion? Not to disprove what you are saying at all but maybe there is something another doc could do to prevent further damage or make things a little better for your hub? My husband has had multiple eye surgeries for a different condition (detached retinas) so I really feel for what you both must be going through after such a tragic result. Take good care of your hub and yourself and then search for a lawyer if you need to, best wishes and prayers for you both.
