King Auto Mall Complaint - Horrible Sales Associate

Review by VRWER on 2006-08-01
FT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA -- I went to King Automall in July 2006 to look at a couple of cars. I am in the market for a new car and I wanted to test drive a couple before my final decision was made. As soon as I arrived I was approached by a gentleman who told me he would help me. I told him from the start that I would not be buying today but rather I am gathering info to buy shortly. From that point on he acted like I was just a waste of time and answered none of my questions completely and actually was incorrect on several issues. He took me to the car I wanted to test drive and told me it was their last one. As he went to get the keys, I noticed that there were 2 more of the same car parked directly behind it (both of which were $4000 less on the ticket). After I test drove the car we went back to his cubical and he then tried to sell it to me even going and getting me a payment quote. The quote he got me was far more than I had told him I was capable of paying so I told him that I was not willing to commit to anything at this time. He resonded (very snidely and rudely) that obviously I was able to commit since I am engaged. That was the last straw and I got up and left. When I wrote an email to complain, the repsonse I got was quick, but they really didn't care. Long Story short, avoid King Auto Mall.

Was this your first time in a car dealership? Nothing out of the ordinary in your story. Since most of these folks are paid on commission, don't be disappointed when they don't want to spend all day taking you on free test drives and don't be surprised when they try to sell you something just in case.

No it wasn't but this was a little out of the ordinary. It is hard to convery how rude and inappropriate his actions were by simply writing a story. I have been to several car dealerships and had many bad experiences but this one was just pathetic. The fact he works on commission is more the reason for him to not be a jerk like this because now I am going to go somewhere else to buy my new car. He lost it. I don't mind the pushy sharklike attitude, but to not answer my questions and take personal shots at me is just wrong.

Sounds like a very bad salesman. I'm not sure which sales technique calls for torking off the customer but I would think it doesn't sell too many cars! :-} Have you thought about shopping via the internet. I bought my last new car through the dealership's internet sales dept and it was heaven!!! I would never buy a car the old fashion way again.

Yeah Hugh is right that's pretty much the business. My uncle has a used car lot so fortunatley I get to buy from him and it's easy. One time a few years ago I decided to shop around and it was a miserable experience.

hmmm... It seems pretty simple to me.. Dealership with customers = profit. Dealership w/o customers = out of business... Think about that the next time your short sightedness runs off a potential customer.

I have no problem with them trying to sell me a car. That is their job. The problem I had was with him not being interested in answering ANY of my questions and making rude comments about me personally. I am going to buy a car but I can't do it for another week or so and I am trying to decide which car I want. If I had a great experiece I WOULD go back to the same dealer and sales associate. He would have gotten my sale. Here in Florida, I have 20 Pontiac dealerships within and hour that I am now more than willing to go to.
