Schmelz Countryside Volkswagen Complaint - They Damaged My Car - 2003 New Beetle

Review by Deeks on 2006-08-04
SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA -- It's been in too many times to count. But the last time, the service guy says, oh ya some piece of fascia is hanging down from under the car, you must have hit something. Right, we have driven this car on the freeway work and back and we hit something. I got under the car that weekend and it is real tore up. I think we would know if we hit something, and it looks like exactly what would happen if someone drove it over a lift that was up too high. I called the service department to complain, and he said he would check into it and get back to me. He didn’t, I had to call a week later and all he basically said was our word against yours. What kind of a place is it that doesn’t even take responsibility for the damage they caused to a customers car?

Your post makes a good and necessary point that I've adhered to for many years. Be it a simple oil-change or major work, inspect the car all around thoroughly, before you drive off the lot. Open the hood and have a look too. Once, after having some engine work done, I went to open the hood for a glance, and the latch had been left unconnected!!!!!!!! I got the service tech out promptly to repair it. You have to be your own watchdog when leaving your car with any type of service technician. (tr)

I've learned when you get an oil change to check the oil before you leave. We had our oil changed (or we thought we did) about a year ago. Before we left the lot my husband decided to do a nce over on his truck. He checked his oil stick only to see the oil had not been changed. When he questioned the service department they insisted they did. He brought the stick into them and asked then why is the oil dirty already. The service manager was livid and took care of the problem.
