Honda Complaint - Engine trouble - 2002 odyssey minivan
CALIFORNIA -- My family and I decided to take a trip to Baja California for a week. After driving for about 60 miles, the engine light came on and I felt a decrease in power as I was going uphill. A mechanic found that one spark plug wasn't working. After bringing the van to a dealer, I had to authorize a total of $140 for looking at it. They found a dead piston. Then I had to authorize $550 more so they would look at the oil pan to see if there was metal debris (this was to determine if my extended warranty would cover). Nothing was found. Then I had to authorize $1500+ to have the head removed to pinpoint the source of failure. Only then, they would know if the extended warranty would cover or not. I don't know the results yet, but I'm very disapointed in Honda and the way they handle customers' issues. I have 64K miles and 11K more to go on the warranty.
Has anybody had this kind of problem? a dead piston? I maintained this van regularly and always thought Honda had a great reputation.
I will continue to recommend their vehicles to my friends and family, if they treat my right. If not, I will be the best negative advertizer they've heard about.
We shall see.
