Amazon.com Complaint - Going through Hades trying to close an account.
It apparently takes a special delivery letter from The Pope to get an account on amazon.com closed down. A brief account of the quagmire I am currently in: My sister is gravely ill and is frankly not expected to live much longer. I am her power of attorney. Recently I have been trying to do some clean up on things she will not be accessing any more: i.e. cancelling gym memberships, etc. Recently I moved on to closing down internet accounts she had. Ebay and several others I was able to close with no problem. Amazon.com however has been another story. I have tried three times now to have her account closed down, explained the whole situation, and was assured by two different representatives that this would be done. However, the account still remains open. One e-mail I received from them said it was being kept open longer because it is a "seller account." I had no idea she ever sold anything but this is no matter to me. I simply would like to know that her amazon account, like the others, is successfully closed so that no one can access her information online or order things using the account. It is frustrating to me to have representatives assure me multiple times that an account will be closed and it is not done.
